Genre Research

Indie-Pop Record Companies.

When researching our Indie-Pop band we wanted to know what record labels are associated with IndiePop bands and these are the record companies that we found.

  • How Does It Feel To Be Loved?: This was the first record company that i found and they have bands and artists that are not very mainstream. This is a link to their website: http://www.howdoesitfeel.co.uk/hdiflabel.html.
  • Aardvark Records: This is a record company that have many different bands and artists from different genres. Because they have bands and artists from different genres, we may not use them as our record company becuase they are not focused on the one genre. However, here is the link for their website. http://www.aardvarkrecords.co.uk/index-2.html
  • Mercury records: This record company have taken on a very famous band that we are hoping to base our band around or to use one of their songs and they are Noah and The Whale. They are a very famous and successful band and could be a good idea to use their record company. Here is a link to their website: http://www.mercuryrecords.co.uk/

Conventions of Indie-Pop:

  • Band is shown throughout music video
  • Extreme close-ups and long shots
  • Dark locations
  • Some music videos contain a few dance routines
  • Band performing, showing all band members and instruments they play
  • Narrative that links to song, band aren’t always characters in the video, sometimes they just perform
  • Baggy tops
  • Striped/checked or print tops
  • Skinny jeans
  • Chinos
Stereotypical Indie-Pop bands

Noah and the whale

    Arctic Monkeys

    The Wombats

Analysed image of the Arctic Monkeys

As you can see the image above is off the band the Arctic Monkeys. They are an Indie Rock band. I have analysed this image as it is a fun image and is an image we could use for our advert or for our digipack. This has given us ideas as to how our advert and digipack can look.

    2. Also, what are the technical conventions of indie-pop in terms of mucis videos and album cover art?
